The Art of Childhood: Stunning Children’s Portraits by Patrizia Vignola

Are you a childhood portrait lover? Patrizia Vignola is a 2D fine artist born in NY, currently residing and practicing in Minnesota. She obtained her Master of Fine Arts from the New York Academy of Art.

Sketching and painting have always been her passions, and she has focused on painting human figures, mainly faces, endowing them with philosophical or psychological messages rather than realistic representations. Her obsession with ruff collars, worn by people in historical portraits, represents the burdens and obligations set by society. This illustrates how we bear and often suffer from the continued socioeconomic and cultural “collar” passed down from our ancestors.

When Patrizia’s daughter was born, she started thinking about the conditions into which people are born and how these conditions depend on their socioeconomic status, culture, and family genes. In this metaphor of the ruff collar, dignity, and restraint are equally suggestive of the social pressure and hereditary attributes that shape our existence.
