This Duo Creates Beautiful Paper Parrot Sculptures
In a world where art and environmental awareness increasingly meet, the artist duo The Paper Ark, formed by Nayan Shrimali and Venus Bird, stands out with a project as poetic as it is committed. Called “The Parrot Project,” the latter highlights the beauty of parrots through paper sculptures with more than meticulous details and striking realism to raise awareness about the threat weighing on these birds.
Before embarking on a creation, the two artists select a species from one of their ornithological books and conduct in-depth research on its habitat and behavior. Each piece is then hand-made with incredible precision. Indeed, each feather is cut, painted, and assembled best to reflect the unique colors and textures of the parrots.
An artistic project carrying a strong message in paper sculptures
This initiative is not limited to aesthetics; it is also part of an awareness-raising approach in the face of an alarming reality. Nearly a third of parrot species are threatened with extinction, according to the IUCN Red List. Victims of poaching, illegal trade, or deforestation, these exotic birds are gradually disappearing, endangering the balance of their ecosystems.
Aware of this urgency, the duo decided to reinvest part of the sales of their works in the conservation of parrots. Each piece sold allows 10% of the profits to be donated to an organization dedicated to their protection.
