Bizarre Celebrity Portraits Made out of Trash

The San Francisco-based artist creates portraits of celebs using pills, candy and all kinds of junk, from car parts to beer bottles. The items are often donated by the stars themselves. Artist Jason Mecier says that many celebrities have bought the work they inspired. His portraits start at $1,500, and each one takes at least 50 hours, he says.

Artistic yes, but very disrespectful. Why did you have to use pills for Mr. Ledger? Did you feel the need to keep pushing the tabloid garbage that was told about him being a drug addict? He had health issues, he died with the lowest prescribed amounts of legally obtained meds possible. Some were time release, he did not take them that fateful day, he was following the dosage directions, his autopsy proved that. Insomnia,flu and coughing,back pain plus private health issues were the reason he was taking prescriptions, NOT DOING DRUGS! I worked with Mr.Ledger, got to know him. He was a wonderful person and NEVER an addict. You should have made his face out of anything but pills. Your art is disrespectful of the dead,not to mention hurtful to his family and friends. What do you care?, as long as it sells right? You are gross, your not an artist, your an opportunist. go back to the drawing board and be a REAL artist.

The Heath Ledger piece was commissioned Glamour magazine for an article about Drugs in Hollywood. I loved him and i think the portrait looks great even if it is ironic.

There are a few that were made with pills, not just Heath Ledger! You seriously need to calm down. It’s ironic, that’s all. I’m sure of it. These are amazing, I don’t even have words to describe how creative and clever these wonderful works of art are. They certainly look time consuming (and at 50+ hours, they certainly ARE!). You have obvious passion for your work and you’re awesome at it. Keep up the good work!
